Mr. Phukan currently serves as vice president of platform engineering at Barclays in Wilmington, Delaware, where he oversees cloud migration initiatives that support the bank’s U.S. consumer bank credit risk-related applications. In this role, he manages critical platforms for stability, reliability and scalability and he keeps complex systems running smoothly while the organization adopts new tools and applications to serve millions of customers.
Transforming Credit Risk Platforms at Scale
Since joining Barclays, Mr. Phukan has helped guide the modernization of the bank’s processing engines through a multiyear effort that shifts credit risk and consumer banking workloads into more agile cloud-based environments. His leadership has played a central role in migrating one of the U.S. consumer card portfolios to the cloud and this work has established a repeatable pathway for subsequent transformations across Barclays’ U.S. consumer banks.
Before his promotion to vice president Mr. Phukan served as engineering delivery lead from 2019 to 2022, during which he led the migration of 10 million customers from one platform to another without disruptions, a milestone that earned him recognition from the chief executive officer. Earlier, he held roles as quality engineering team lead from 2013 to 2018 and technology analyst from 2012 to 2013, positions that deepened his understanding of high-volume transaction environments and resilient infrastructure for consumer banking.

Global Experience and Continuous Learning
Earlier in his career Mr. Phukan built a global record across several continents and institutions, and he gained hands-on experience in both emerging and mature markets. To wit, he worked at JPMorgan Chase & Co. as a senior quality assurance analyst from 2008 to 2012 while he also held roles at Tata Consultancy Services Limited as a technology delivery lead in Wilmington, Delaware, and previously as a software engineering lead in Johannesburg, South Africa, and a senior software engineer in Bengaluru, India.
Mr. Phukan’s academic background supports his leadership in technology and finance, including a Master of Business Administration in information technology from Goldey-Beacom College in 2014 where he was inducted into the honor class of Alpha Chi. He also holds a Master of Computer Applications in computer software engineering from Periyar University in India and a bachelor’s degree in computer science from Gauhati University in Guwahati, India, studies that strengthened his expertise in software engineering and systems architecture.

His dedication to service has resulted in such honors as the Service Excellence Award at Barclays and the Star of the Month Award at Tata Consultancy Services.
Mr. Phukan attributes his success to hard work, a consistent drive to excel, the support of his family and his faith. These values have guided him through complex projects and career transitions across continents. Outside of work, Mr. Phukan enjoys traveling, spending time in nature and being with his family, pursuits that help him stay grounded as he leads large-scale technology initiatives for one of the world’s leading financial institutions.
