Novonesis, the biotech company based in Lyngby north of Copenhagen, has announced plans to invest about 600 million euros, or roughly 4.5 billion Danish kroner, in a new production facility in India. The plant will be built in Patalganga, in the central part of the country.
The company specialises in enzymes, the biological catalysts used across food, cleaning, and industrial processes. Novonesis said the new site is intended to become one of the most advanced enzyme factories in the world once it is fully running.
The investment is aimed in part at more sustainable manufacturing, with the company saying the facility is designed to make production greener. Enzymes are often promoted as a way to cut energy use and chemical inputs in other industries.
Construction is under way, with completion targeted for 2030. Reaching full capacity is expected to take time after the buildings are finished, in line with the long timelines typical of large biotech plants.
The move reflects the growing importance of India as a manufacturing base for European companies. For Novonesis, it adds capacity in a fast-growing market while spreading production beyond its existing sites.
