Denmark Inaugurates Gribskov as a New National Park

Denmark has inaugurated a new national park centred on Gribskov, one of the country’s largest forests, located north of Copenhagen. The designation places the woodland within a growing network of protected areas aimed at conservation and public access.

The park is intended to safeguard wildlife and biodiversity while giving visitors space to explore nature. Officials have pointed to the value of preserving large, connected areas of forest for both ecology and recreation.

Gribskov has long been a popular destination for walkers, cyclists, and nature lovers, with lakes and trails winding through the trees. National park status is meant to strengthen protection while keeping the area open to the public.

Denmark has expanded its national parks over the years as part of broader efforts to protect natural landscapes. Each addition reflects a balance between conservation goals and the country’s dense, well-used countryside.

Supporters welcomed the move as a step toward restoring habitats and supporting native species. The designation adds Gribskov to a list of sites that showcase Denmark’s forests, coasts, and open land.
