Aspia Group appoints Sofia Gotmar-Blomstedt as chief executive

Aspia Group has appointed Sofia Gotmar-Blomstedt as its new chief executive, bringing in a leader from the top ranks of the professional services world. The Nordic accounting and advisory firm said she would take over on September 18, stepping into the role held by Ola Gunnarsson, who moves into a strategic advisory position.

Gotmar-Blomstedt joins from PwC, where she ran the firm’s Swedish operations. Aspia pointed to her background in advisory work, business transformation and the use of artificial intelligence and digital tools, areas the group sees as central to the way accounting firms will serve clients in the coming years. Her arrival marks a generational shift at the head of one of the region’s larger advisory networks.

The company set out an agenda for the incoming chief executive built around faster and more profitable growth. “Sofia brings extensive experience from professional services, transformation, advisory, AI and digital innovation,” Aspia said in a statement. “She will lead Aspia Group into its next phase, building on what already makes us strong: our people, our expertise, our local relationships and our ambition to keep moving forward.”

Aspia operates across Sweden, Denmark, Finland and Norway, employing roughly 3,000 people at more than 100 locations. That spread makes it one of the larger accounting and advisory networks rooted in the Nordic region, serving businesses that range from small local firms to companies working across several countries. It competes both with the large global auditors and with smaller domestic practices in each of its markets, a position that has left it exposed to the same pressures on fees and staffing felt across the sector.

Under Gotmar-Blomstedt, the group said it would push to strengthen cooperation across its markets, sharpen its service offering and lean further on technology to help both clients and staff. The accounting sector has come under pressure to automate routine work and move advisers toward higher-value advice, a shift that has reshaped how such firms compete for both clients and talent. Her appointment signals Aspia’s intent to press ahead with that change from the top, and to lean on a leader who has managed a large practice through similar upheaval elsewhere in the industry.
